Mt. Begbie Brewing Company
is located in the heart of the rugged Columbia mountain range, which is an ideal place to make beer. The scenery is great, the water is mountain fresh and crystal clear. And the town is steeped in the kind of rugged, fun-loving history that just goes naturally with a good brew.
Our beer is 100% natural. Only malted barley, hops, yeast, and water are used. No additives or preservatives are included.
We brew in small batches of 1700 litres. This won't make us rich. But it lets us control quality in ways that are just not possible in megabrewery operations.
Hops is the most important ingredient in establishing a beer's distinctive character; a cone-like flower which grows on a vine. These are the dominant herbs in the seasoning of beer.
Most of our hops are purchased from Hopunion, of Yakima, Washington. These hops have a slightly bitter quality which helps to counterbalance the sweetness of malt. Hops can be: aromatic, bittering and antimicrobial. Each variety of hops has a distinct signature, combining cultivation qualities, flavor, and aroma.
Our brewery is an all-grain brewhouse. We do not use any syrups, corn grits, rice etc. The bulk of our grain is purchased from Gambrinus Malting in Armstrong, B.C. Specialty roasted varieties come from Briess Malting in the United States.
